We Need Your Help!

Urgent Appeal for Donation

Dear all,

We would like to make a humble request for urgent donations for the internally displaced people (war refugees) in Arakan State, Myanmar (Burma).

Due to the killings and atrocities committed upon the civilian population by Myanmar military during its conflict with the Arakan Army, there are more than 170,000 and growing internally displaced people in Arakan State now.

Those refugees, mostly children, women, and the elderly are facing extremely dangerous and life threatening situations.

1. Myanmar army can come to their makeshift camps, shoot them, arrest, torture, and kill them.

2. There is a looming possibility of an uncontrollable outbreak of COVID-19, as they have no protection whatsoever and they are living in crowded camps.

3. The serious monsoon season is coming in a month, and there is an immediate need of building enough shelters for the refugees.

We, the Arakan American Community (AAC) are a registered 501 (c) (3) non-profit organization that is currently helping the war refugees in Arakan State through various aid organizations.

We urge you to share and contribute what you can for those war refugees in Arakan State and save their lives. Your help is essential. We thank you very much for your kind consideration and contribution.

IDPs in the State of Arakan, Myanmar (Burma)

Since the end of 2018, there has been a significant upsurge violation in the state of Arakan (Rakhine), Myanmar(Burma). The ongoing conflict has led to countless civilian casualties, extremely widespread destruction of property and many other atrocities spanning all across to the state of Arakan , particularly in the nine townships of Buthidaung, Kyauktaw, Maungdaw, Minbya, Mrauk-U, Myebon, Pauktaw, Ponnagyun, Rathedaung as well as Paletwa Township in neighboring Chin State. Ann and Kyaukphyu are two other notable affected townships with nearly all parts of Rakhine State being affected at certain points.

An uncountable number of civilians have been arrested, killed and women are being raped by the Burmese Military without any type of just cause and often no reason at all. Many villages have been completely destroyed by being burned and bombed by the Burmese Military to the point of only ash, rubble, and craters being left where entire villages, towns, and communities once so vibrantly thrived.

The number of IDPs that fled their homes due to ongoing fights between the Arakan Army (AA) and Burmese Military in the state of Arakan (Rakhine), Myanamar (Burma) has reached over 106,000.

Locals are fleeing their houses as the fights has intensified in Buthedaung, Rathedaung, Kyuktaw, Ponnagyun, Mrauk-U, Minbya, Myaebon and Ann Townships. They are taking shelter at urban wards and monasteries.

The IDPs are facing food shortages and no medicine. Some IDPs camps in remote areas and non-local organization-recognized ones, are facing more difficulties in the availability of food as they don’t get aid from international organizations and local organizations. The quality of rice in some IDP camps is very poor and thirsty water. There is no any nutritious aid for children, pregnant women and the elderly.

The camps are in need of nutritious food for pregnant women and children. Some pregnant women die after giving birth. In addition, the elderly also dies due to climate condition. The camps are in need of nutritious food for infants below to alive for them.

According to we receive email from the local organizations, there are 106614 IDPs including 69,412 IDPs outside camps:
4,500 IDPs in Ponnagyun,  7214 in Kyauktaw,  11103 in MraukU,  11475 in Minbya,  4467 in Myaebone,  3076 in Ann,  13,316 in Yathedaung,  13,692 in Buthedaung,  291 in Pauktaw and 277 in Sittwe.

It has been more than a year since the Myanmar Government completely shut down and cut off internet access in much of the Arakan State with specific emphasis on internet cut-offs in areas of conflict where the government and military seem to be in fear of their atrocities being accurately and adequately reported to the world. During the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic, many people in the Arakan State are left in complete and total isolation from the rest of the country and state, not to mention the much larger global community. Without any ways to communicate beyond their own family and immediate neighbors, these people are left with no knowledge at all regarding COVID-19.

Many people including children, pregnant women, elderly, and so many more are suffering from extreme starvation in the IDPs (Internally Displaced Person) camps and some just hiding in the jungle because the government doesn't allow any aid or aid workers to come in from the international community to help them. Every penny counts on helping these people in their greatest time of need. We  have seen a heartbreaking video of children and families who are forced to survive by eating plain rice alone. One particular video which tore my heart into pieces when a young child said that they were happy to have rice, but they really wish they could have at least some soup to eat with the rice because the poor-quality plain rice they were eating was difficult to swallow and dirty water to drink.

We want to do whatever We possibly can to help these people who are so desperately in need of our help right now. We kindly ask each of you to please give whatever assistance you feel capable and comfortable giving to aid the people in their unimaginably desperate time of need. We understand current times are difficult for us all so if you’re unable to give any financial or other assistance please like and share this post so we can reach as many people as possible!  We will do our best to share photos and videos once the IDPs receive our donations.
